Recently, I came across a remarkable story in the news about a 34-year-old man named Nitesh Chopra from Haryana, India, who benefitted from the electrocardiogram (ECG) feature of the Apple Watch. Nitesh had been feeling fatigued and experienced chest discomfort. Last year, he gifted his wife, Neha, an Apple Watch Series 6, and when he expressed his unease, she urged him to take an ECG.
The ECG results showed concerning irregularities, prompting the couple to rush to the nearest hospital. After undergoing angiography, it was revealed that Nitesh had a staggering 99.9% blockage in his arteries. A stent was placed in his heart, and he was discharged a few days later, feeling grateful for the life-saving capabilities of the device. Neha even reached out to Apple CEO Tim Cook to share their story, and to her surprise, he responded, expressing his appreciation.
If you haven't heard of similar incidents, a quick search for "Apple smartwatch saves life" will reveal numerous accounts.

When the Apple Watch first launched in 2015, many technology critics labeled it as an overpriced novelty struggling to find a market niche. Fast forward to 2019, and Apple sold nearly 10 million more watches than the entire Swiss watch industry, which includes prestigious brands like Tag Heuer and Swatch.
The same critics are now praising the device for its life-saving impact. Apple’s commitment to tracking and analyzing vital health data is evident in the watch's continuous improvement. The Apple Watch now includes features such as menstrual cycle tracking, heart rate monitoring, workout and sleep tracking, ECG readings, and blood oxygen monitoring. In critical situations, it can also contact emergency services automatically.
Technology should enhance lives, and companies like Apple strive to maximize its potential. The Apple Watch has evolved into a personal health management tool that many are willing to pay between $400 and $850 for the latest models, such as the Apple Watch 7.
It’s inspiring to witness technology making a tangible difference in people's lives.
