Chapter 1: The Disappearance of Corporal Sergio Pucheta
In March 2006, Argentinian newspapers were filled with sensational stories of an unusual incident involving Corporal Sergio Pucheta from La Pampa Police. He reported an abduction by beings with glowing red eyes who communicated with him through telepathy. Prior to vanishing, Pucheta communicated with his base, indicating he had found something peculiar near “cruce de las reeds,” situated about 20 kilometers southeast of General Pico. Upon arriving at his location, his colleagues discovered that he had inexplicably disappeared, leaving behind his motorcycle, helmet, firearm, and parts of his uniform.
An extensive search operation was launched, spanning approximately 18 hours, until a local farmer stumbled upon Pucheta, who was found huddled in a ditch about 20 kilometers from where he had last been seen. Although he appeared to be in shock, he bore no physical injuries. Pucheta narrated an astonishing account of his experience, claiming to have encountered two diminutive beings with red eyes who directed him telepathically. Despite his attempts to flee, he could not explain how he ended up in the location where he was ultimately discovered.
Investigators noted that Pucheta had walked four kilometers along a nearby road, with his footprints abruptly vanishing in the grass. The mystery surrounding the incident remains unsolved, leaving many to ponder the true nature of Corporal Pucheta’s experience.
On March 3, 2006, unusual lights were reported in the Santa Rosa area of La Pampa, coinciding with the mysterious disappearance of Corporal Pucheta. Prior to vanishing, he had contacted a fellow officer via cell phone, triggering a massive search operation led by Inspector Commissioner Roberto Ayala, alongside top officials including Commissioner General (R) Ricardo Baudaux and Minister of Security, Government, and Justice, Dr. Juan Carlos Tierno.
The event unfolded in the rural locality of Dorila, en route to Maisonave, to the East. Pucheta, a 31-year-old officer who worked in the Rustling section of the URII based in General Pico, had no apparent personal issues; he was happily married and owned a business. Testimonies from colleagues and witnesses depicted him as an average officer with a respectable reputation.
Pucheta’s account of the event remains enigmatic, as he described seeing “something” that compelled him to disassemble his firearm and drop his phone. He felt that he was being pursued, stating that “they followed me all night.” The specifics of what he saw or experienced remain unclear.
A rural producer returning from General Pico eventually located Pucheta lying in a fetal position on a road adjacent to Provincial Route 1, facing Quemú Quemú. When Commissioner Inspector Ayala attempted to engage him, Pucheta was unresponsive. This case continues to be shrouded in mystery, with investigations led by the UFO Studies Center, represented by Quique Mario.
As I approached Pucheta, I observed him curled up on his right side, his body tense and unyielding, signifying he had endured significant trauma. Despite my presence, he remained still and unresponsive, his posture alarming. I attempted to communicate, reassuring him that help was nearby and that the head of Regional II was present.
To ease his distress, I suggested a breathing exercise, and slowly, he seemed to calm. I examined his hands and head, finding no visible issues, although he complained of a burning sensation in his eyes.
The officer, still in shock from his encounter, repeatedly covered his face with his forearms, insisting that “they followed me all night.” A look of terror lingered in his eyes as he recounted being pursued by two entities with red eyes, describing their gaze as painful and claiming they instructed him on what actions to take, even compelling him to make a phone call, warning that they would come for him at night. When asked about their appearance, he described them as transparent.
Upon inquiry regarding his firearm and phone, he could only respond with, “I don’t know.” Once he seemed more at ease, he was assisted by Inspector Ayala to stand, but he immediately broke down in tears, once again shielding his face. His behavior was consistent with someone experiencing severe emotional shock.
He also mentioned that his hands felt like they were burning, though there were no visible signs of injury. His feet were similarly distressed, prompting him to remove his boots with assistance. Blisters were evident on his soles, suggesting excessive walking. He maintained that the red-eyed beings would return for him that night.
Upon arrival, medical personnel informed him they were there to help, but they opted to transfer him directly to Centeno hospital in General Pico. We assisted him onto the stretcher, where he lay face down, still covering his face with his forearms. His admission to the hospital initiated an emergency response, with three nurses helping him as Dr. Covella and Dr. Lluch observed.
Dr. Covella and his team conducted a thorough examination, but no abnormalities were found. Although Pucheta expressed a desire for sedation, Dr. Covella declined, as he believed it would be prudent to gather more information. It was determined that Pucheta would undergo extensive testing, including blood and urine analyses, and would remain hospitalized for observation for at least 24 hours.
Since the late 1990s, the province has reported an uptick in sightings of red-eyed beings, a phenomenon that, while not unprecedented, has been characterized by a degree of aggression. Compared to other cases, such as those involving Platner (August 1983) or Castellano (1999), these encounters seem more hostile. One notable incident involved a witness, Sayazo (April 1980), who reported a being that physically restrained him, causing a sensation akin to a puncture wound leading to unconsciousness.
The initial reports of “red eyes” surfaced in the late 90s, prompting intervention from Commissioner David Gallego of the Telén police station. During a series of animal mutilations, multiple witnesses reported seeing a figure with “red eyes,” likening it to two glowing embers. In December of the same year, a 17-year-old boy in Parera encountered a creature with “red eyes” that left him disoriented and in shock. Despite this, he managed to contact a family member for help.
Another significant event occurred in Jacinto Arauz, where a rural worker was startled by a UFO resembling a silo with three legs. A bolt of lightning struck him, affecting two fingers on his left hand as he held a cell phone, which inexplicably defied gravity and ascended towards the craft. This incident was later investigated by local authorities, yet the phone was never recovered.
