Building Unyielding Consistency for Online Income Success

Chapter 1: The Call of the Void
Have you ever experienced an inexplicable urge to leap from a high place? Research suggests that nearly half of us have. This phenomenon, often referred to as the "call of the void," isn't an indication that you genuinely wish to jump; rather, it's a miscommunication in your brain. Similarly, the temptation to give up is a type of void, something that everyone encounters when faced with challenges.
When results don’t come swiftly, your mind might create doubt. You might think:
- I don’t know how to proceed.
- The workload feels overwhelming.
- I have nothing to offer.
- What if my product doesn’t sell?
- What should I write about?
- How can I market myself as a newcomer?
- Am I good enough to succeed?
I empathize with these feelings because I've experienced them, just like every successful individual you admire.
Why does this happen? Success inherently involves effort. While we understand that hard work is crucial for success in various fields—be it sports, academics, or the arts—the online business world can feel deceptively simple. Many online entrepreneurs promote an easier path, even if their own results are mediocre. The reality is that building a profitable online business is a new frontier; your brain naturally resists it, gravitating towards familiar patterns. This tendency can be particularly pronounced in those who have experienced instability in their upbringing. If you don’t cultivate acute self-awareness, you risk perpetuating unproductive cycles in both your personal and professional life.
What can you do about it? I've experienced setbacks and moments of self-doubt. Nevertheless, I have learned the importance of persistence. Here are three mindset shifts that have empowered me to stay focused and achieve my first six-figure year.
Section 1.1: Embrace the Challenge
Rather than expecting joy in your work, recognize that writing can be tough. Many who describe writing as enjoyable may be novices or still balancing a day job, viewing writing as a diversion. I genuinely love writing, and it often feels effortless. However, after a decade as a full-time writer, I understand that not every moment is filled with delight. This is your profession; if you aspire to excel, you must commit to it daily, regardless of your mood.
I once chastised myself when writing felt laborious. I would question my determination, but now I push through those emotions as I would if I were clocking in for a 9-to-5 job.
> "In my somewhat limited experience, the value of writing seems to be inversely related to how easy it is to produce. What flows easily often turns out to be lackluster weeks later." — H.L. Mencken, journalist and social critic
Section 1.2: Focus on Actions, Not Outcomes
While we often set results-driven goals—like earning a specific income or growing our follower base—these can stifle productivity. Many factors can influence your ability to reach those results, leading to feelings of inadequacy. Instead, concentrate on actionable goals. For instance, I aim to pitch one article weekly to Business Insider. While I hope to get published there, my focus remains on the action itself. Rejections no longer signify failure; they are reminders that I am actively engaging in the process.
Chapter 2: Cultivating Grit
Grit is the key to perseverance. To strengthen this attribute, I have two strategies:
- I work even when I don’t feel motivated. Each time I push through a challenging day—filled with unsubscribers or negative feedback—I fortify my grit.
- I challenge myself physically. The connection between body and mind is profound; pushing physical limits can open your mind to possibilities. Recently, I cycled 12 miles with my nearly three-year-old in tow. Though it was exhausting, I proved to myself that I can achieve more than I think.
