A Fresh Perspective: Swapping Coffee for Green Tea

Recently, I listened to a podcast featuring a doctor who suggested substituting coffee with green tea. Intrigued by this idea, I decided to experiment and see how it would affect me.

I started by swapping my usual 9 AM coffee for a cup of green tea, and the outcome was quite surprising. Given that I typically consume a significant amount of coffee, I initially experienced a noticeable dip in energy, particularly in the evenings. Remarkably, there were instances when I found myself drifting off to sleep well before 10 PMā€”something that rarely happened when I was drinking coffee.

After a few days, around three to four, my body adjusted to this new energy level, and I no longer felt the craving for coffee. One of the most beneficial changes I noted was the absence of that jittery sensation I had come to associate with my coffee consumption. This improvement is likely due to the lower caffeine content in green tea, which allows for a steadier energy rise without the abrupt spikes.

Additionally, I observed that on the days I drank green tea, my body seemed to be better hydrated compared to when I consumed coffee. It is well-known that coffee can lead to dehydration, often requiring me to drink extra water to compensate.

While I genuinely enjoyed the flavor of green tea, I doubt I could completely forgo the taste of coffee in the mornings. However, I plan to alternate between coffee and green tea a few days each month.
