“Take your time, and hurry up,” my grandmother used to say—words that resonate even today.

I often find myself in a rush, yet here I am, stuck in a queue. Don't they realize I have places to be? My muscles tense, my foot begins to tap, and my jaw clenches. Frustration creeps in as I judge the person ahead of me, questioning their pace.

Waiting feels unbearable.

I-HAVE-TO-WAIT?! My mind is racing!

Overcoming impatience through mindfulness

Rage builds within me at the thought of waiting.

Wait a moment… sigh

I take a breath.

I concentrate on my breathing.

I check in with my body.

I soften my knees slightly.

Gently, I sway side to side.

I remind myself that this moment is a practice in patience.

That thought is calming.

I feel my feet connect with the ground through my shoes.

I ground myself in the present.

Yes!

As I inch forward in line, I become aware of my breath.

The world around me expands; my focus broadens. With each breath, impatience transforms into calm. I visualize arriving on time for my meeting.

With a smile, I share a kind word with the person in front of me.

Finding peace in the midst of waiting

My breath invites tranquility. Frustration fades away, making room for love—pure and unconditional. It feels uplifting.

A short chat with the person ahead brings a sense of peace.
