# Five Key Improvements Apple Should Make in 2023 for Users

Written on

Chapter 1: The Apple Experience in 2023

Let’s be honest, the expectations for 2023 are sky-high. We anticipate the release of an extraordinary iPhone, a groundbreaking system-on-chip (SoC), and vibrant display colors that outshine the night sky. The audio quality from Apple’s devices is expected to be nothing short of spectacular, perhaps more inviting than a celebrity's allure.

While we anticipate these advancements, we also recognize that many features, such as always-on displays and high refresh rates, are merely expected rather than sought after. Yet, when it comes to alternatives, the choices are disheartening. Windows feels like a troublesome virus, Linux is still evolving, and ChromeOS and Android are often perceived as lacking.

Apple is aware of its dominant position, yet it must not take it for granted. The company needs to ensure that consumers feel they receive tangible benefits in exchange for their investment. This year, I am not looking for flashy new gadgets; instead, I crave meaningful improvements. After years of incremental changes, I believe 2023 should be a year dedicated to refining what’s already there. Let’s call it "The Great Apple Refactor." Below are five crucial areas I hope Apple will focus on this year.

Section 1.1: Reviving iCloud Sync

One of the most talked-about issues among users is the unreliability of iCloud syncing. My article addressing these problems has gained significant traction, highlighting widespread frustration. Despite Apple’s robust engineering capabilities, syncing issues remain unresolved, which is disappointing given how integral this feature is for user experience.

iCloud Sync Issues

I know this can be fixed with minimal effort, so why the delay, Apple? As of 2023, reliable syncing is a basic expectation, not a luxury.

Section 1.2: Investing in Quality Assurance

Apple’s reliance on community feedback for software testing is concerning. This approach often results in users encountering significant bugs. It’s unacceptable for a company with Apple’s resources to depend on unpaid volunteers to help identify issues.

We can no longer tolerate software glitches that compromise user experience. The expectation for high-quality software has evolved, and Apple needs to invest in comprehensive in-house testing to ensure reliability.

Chapter 2: A Call for Transparency

While I stand by the M2 MacBook Air as a remarkable device, I must address the unsettling revelations regarding the base model’s SSD performance. The compromises made due to chip shortages and other factors should not lead to misleading representations of product capabilities.

Apple needs to prioritize transparency in its communications. Either provide clear information about hardware configurations or ensure that all models meet customer expectations without hidden flaws.

Section 2.1: Eliminating Superfluous Features

The iPhone 14 Pro didn’t pique my interest, not due to its price, but because many of its features felt superficial. Instead of focusing on flashy updates, I’d prefer Apple to implement practical tools that enhance everyday usability.

For instance, robust features like Freeform are more valuable than gimmicks. Users crave functionality over novelty; we need tools that genuinely improve our experience.

Section 2.2: Revitalizing the HomePod

I believe there’s room for the HomePod to make a comeback. An upgraded and more affordable version would be a welcome addition to Apple’s lineup. I envision a product that combines the power of the original HomePod with the smart features of the HomePod mini, all at a reasonable price point.

It’s time for Apple to deliver a smart speaker that not only sounds great but also fills a room with rich audio quality.

In conclusion, I’m not asking for much. These improvements would significantly enhance the Apple experience for countless users. What changes would you like to see from Apple in 2023?
