Chapter 1: The Journey of April

As April draws to a close, it brings to mind the idea that nothing is eternal.

I completed an entire month of writing—perhaps miracles do exist! Some days, the world feels full of wonders, from the tiniest dust particles to the most unfortunate roadkill; my perspective gives everything its own unique twist. On other days, I become so engrossed in life that I forget to appreciate these small miracles. I had originally intended to explore prompts related to this theme, but time slipped away, playfully taunting me with a "nah nah nahnah nah."

Today, I had thoughts of discussing endings and beginnings, greetings and farewells, the journey into the sunset, but it seems we’ve touched on those topics sufficiently. Instead, here’s your creative challenge.

Your Prompt

Should you decide to take it on…

Compose a poem using remnants—whether they stem from your dreams last night, leftover lines from your month of writing, or cherished memories that have faded. You may also draw inspiration from my list of unused prompts, affectionately referred to as the NaPo Doggy Bag.

  • Departure or Arrival? Are we almost there?
  • Elements: Consider incorporating the elements—thulium, earth, wind, water, fire, carbon, and oxygen—into your poem.
  • Fact-finding: Discover at least five facts about a random subject (for instance, apples, anteaters, stone circles, the Empire State Building, or the Corn Laws) and weave them into a poem.
  • Free-writing: Yes, you heard it—just dive in!
  • Stolen Words/Lives: Engage in eavesdropping or people-watching, and write from another's perspective.
  • Observation: Look to your right and describe what you see; can you find a poem there? Alternatively, survey your surroundings, list ten items you notice, and create a poem from that.
  • Celebration of Life: Nothing lasts forever, so why not honor something or someone significant in your life?

If any part of this prompt inspires you to create a poem here on Medium, please share a link in the comments; I would love to read your work! If I’ve overlooked yours, don’t hesitate to remind me.

This has been a joyous poetic broadcast from the musings in my mind and the metaphors swirling within. As April comes to an end, the poetry bids farewell, while May eagerly awaits with new stories to share.

Feel free to follow, share, applaud, and spread happiness.

A Special Thanks to My Fellow Poets

I extend my gratitude to everyone who engaged with my work—whether your names were mentioned or not, your support has been invaluable. You motivated me throughout this month, and I hope you all had a fulfilling Poetry Writing Month, filled with written words, broken lines, and a zest for life.
