Chapter 1: My 30-Day Journey on Medium

I decided to embark on a challenge: to post daily on Medium for an entire month as a newcomer.

This might sound easy, but if you've attempted it, you understand how challenging it can be. You sit down ready to write, only to encounter a blank mind. After hitting publish, you watch your stats barely budge, leading to the nagging thought, “Is this even worth my time?”

I’ve experienced that frustration, which motivated me to commit to 30 posts in 30 days—no excuses, no breaks. I wanted to determine whether the buzz around Medium earnings was genuine or simply hype.

To my surprise, the outcome was unexpected.

Did I manage to earn $5?

Absolutely! And I take pride in that achievement. The initial ten days were tough; I only made 13 pence. Just 13 pence! It felt disheartening, and I questioned whether my efforts were justified.

But I persevered.

Looking back now, it’s almost comical how disheartened I was. After all, ten days is not enough time to expect substantial results, and I knew that deep down. However, it’s essential to note that 30 days didn’t magically make me an overnight sensation either.

I'd be lying if I said I didn’t anticipate a little more success. I saw numerous Medium posts from people earning £200 in just two weeks, and I thought, “Why can’t that be me?”

In retrospect, the real error wasn't in my approach; it was in comparing my progress to others. There will always be someone achieving more, but fixating on their journey won’t help you advance.

And that’s the essential takeaway.

Now, let’s get to the moment you’ve been waiting for—here’s what I earned after 30 consecutive days of posting.

Indeed, let’s convert that into pounds.

In terms of pounds, my earnings didn't even reach £5. But that’s alright; at least I hit $5!

That’s just how it goes. The money was surprising, but what truly astonished me was the knowledge I gained over these 30 days.

After all, this was my first experience earning online this month.

I learned numerous lessons about persistence and growth, and that’s precisely what I’m pursuing.

Without Medium, I wouldn’t have had the courage to venture into content creation.

I quickly launched my Instagram and YouTube channels. You should have seen the excitement on my face today when I began filming some B-roll for an upcoming video.

I’m finally pursuing something I’ve dreamed of for so long, something I once lacked the courage to attempt.

For too long, I allowed the fear of others’ opinions to hold me back. But you know what? I’m done with that.

Here’s the reality: if you’re genuinely passionate about your aspirations, the opinions of others shouldn’t deter you from pursuing them.

To be honest, I faced a bit of a slump recently. After all, I went on vacation, and my only writing option was my phone.
