Embracing Spiritual Growth: Three Surprising Transformations
Written on
Chapter 1: The Awakening Journey
Many individuals often inquire, “What’s in it for me on this spiritual journey?” This question, rooted in a materialistic society, reflects a common curiosity among those who have yet to awaken. While it’s understandable, the answer is complex.
On one hand, the journey can lead to profound self-discovery and a deeper understanding of reality. On the other hand, remaining oblivious might bring a sense of comfort. It’s akin to choosing between the blue and red pills in the Matrix. If you’re still contemplating which route to take, I’d like to share three unexpected benefits I experienced during my spiritual awakening.
The first benefit: Mastering Alchemy
“Alchemy symbolizes the transformation of base elements into gold, turning negative emotions like fear and shame into love and fulfillment.” — Deepak Chopra, The Way of the Wizard.
Reflecting on my past, I realize I was once trapped in primal instincts, fixated on immediate desires—eating, sleeping, spending, and seeking physical pleasures. My awareness was minimal, akin to that of a mustard seed. While intelligence can lead to success, it doesn’t necessarily expand one’s consciousness. Often, financial gains can become toxic when one’s moral compass is underdeveloped.
Experiences of success without adequate consciousness can lead to detrimental outcomes. I vividly recall my turbulent years from 17 to 33, when my mind was a chaotic nest of anger and frustration. Each setback triggered a storm of negative thoughts, pushing me towards destructive reactions.
However, this all shifted positively with my spiritual awakening. The initial advantage of this journey is a reduction in reactivity—transforming fear and ignorance into opportunities for growth, akin to the alchemy of turning lead into gold.
The second benefit: Profound Revelations
“Buddhas do not cleanse wrongdoing with water or heal suffering with their hands; they liberate beings through the truth.” — Buddha.
Another transformative aspect of spirituality is the arrival of revelations. There are truths that remain elusive until they transition from mere thoughts to heartfelt understanding. This distinction between intellectualizing and internalizing knowledge is crucial.
When you internalize insights, they become revelations that can profoundly alter your life. I had two significant realizations: first, I recognized my chain smoking as a misguided attempt to hold onto the memory of my father. Second, I identified my compulsive eating as a coping mechanism developed during childhood bullying.
Understanding these roots of my behavior allowed me to heal and change. Now, I no longer smoke and maintain a healthier diet.
The third benefit: Discovering True Love
“All I needed was to embrace my true self and share that love.” — Joan Brady, God on a Harley: A Spiritual Fable.
The final insight gained from my spiritual journey is the true essence of love. This love transcends romantic notions and is rooted in loyalty and acceptance.
Each relationship will face challenges, but when you expand your consciousness, the essence of love becomes clearer. You shed the weight of societal expectations regarding appearances and focus on genuine connections.
In essence, spirituality equips you to manage your reactions and enrich your life. With time, you’ll look back and see how far you’ve come from your former self. It acts like an antivirus for your soul, clearing away harmful patterns and beliefs.
Ultimately, spirituality reveals the nature of true love, freeing you from societal pressures and fostering a relaxed, fulfilling life. The choice now lies with you: will you take the red pill and awaken from the matrix, or the blue one to remain in slumber?
